Exclusive: Nigeria's Femi Azeez keeps quiet on Millwall future despite Premier League dream

The 24-year-old winger enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Lions as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the English Premier League in the recently finished 2025-26 campaign.

Azeez scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 37 appearances for Alex Neil's side, earning him a spot in the official EFL Championship Team of the Season.

Owing to his impressive form, a number of clubs are keeping tabs on the former Reading winger ahead of next season.

Nevertheless, when asked about his future at the Den, Azeez stayed focused on the here and now, insisting his priority is to enjoy his summer holiday with his family before returning for pre-season training.

"It is not my decision, you know. Right now I am on holiday, and I want to enjoy it with my children and get ready for the season with Millwall, so that is what I am focusing on at the moment," he said to Flashscore.com.

Previously, Azeez spoke candidly about his desire to one day feature in the Premier League, describing England's top division as the ultimate goal for any footballer.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the attacker acknowledged that his impressive displays in the Championship have only intensified his ambition to compete at the highest level.

"As a footballer, you always want to play at the highest possible level. I have had a good season in the Championship, but whenever I achieve something, I am always hungry for more and looking towards the next step," he said.

"I am ambitious as a footballer and as a person, and I want to reach the highest level possible. The Premier League is the pinnacle of football, and I would love to play there one day. I will do everything I can to make that happen."

Driven by his strong performances in England, Femi received his first call-up to the Super Eagles and quickly made an impact on the international stage.

The versatile forward scored twice in Nigeria's 2-0 win over Zimbabwe in the semi-finals of the 2026 Unity Cup before setting up a goal as Eric Chelle's team beat Jamaica in the final at Charlton Athletic's Valley Stadium.

Looking back on his first experience of international football, he expressed his joy at representing the three-time African champions and revealed his determination to keep contributing to the side.

"Very happy, you know. Obviously, it is a new position, number 10, and I think I really enjoyed it. It is a great team, great management, and a great manager, so I think it has gone well," he continued.

"I was really happy when I received the call from the manager. I was honoured and very proud."

When asked what fans can expect from him, Azeez added: "Hopefully, more of the same goals, assists, creating chances, being exciting for the fans and, most importantly, hard work."

Despite often being compared to former Super Eagles star Peter Odemwingie, the Millwall forward insists he is focused on building his own identity in the game.

"I hear it every day now, but I have to stay humble and create a name for myself," he said.

Azeez also admitted he is keen to share a dressing room with two of Nigeria's biggest stars, former African Footballers of the Year Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen.

"Of course, I would love to play with them. They are among the best players in Africa, so naturally I want to learn from them and improve my game."

Born in England to a Nigerian father and Spanish mother, Azeez started his football journey in non-league football with Northwood before moving to Wealdstone in 2018.

He then had a loan spell at Hanwell Town before earning a move to Reading in 2019. After gaining more experience on loan at Bracknell Town, he made his senior debut for Reading in 2021 and gradually became a key player, especially during the 2023-24 season. His performances led to a move to Millwall in 2024, where he has continued to develop.

Football runs in the family, with his younger brother Miguel Azeez also being a professional footballer who has represented England at under-16, under-17, under-18, under-19 and under-20 levels.
