West Bromwich Albion handed two-point penalty, re-enter Championship relegation battle
This sanction has resulted in them slipping to 20th position, now six points ahead of Oxford United in third from bottom, with only two fixtures remaining.
A submission to the independent Club Financial Review Panel (CFRP) indicated that West Brom had gone beyond the Upper Loss Threshold of 39 million pounds (53 million dollars) across the three-year span concluding with the 2024/25 campaign.
West Brom contested the charges.
After a hearing held on 22 and 23 April, and after reviewing the full Compliance Report together with the clubs replies, the CFRP concluded that the clubs losses surpassed the Upper Loss Threshold and applied a two-point penalty, which takes effect right away, according to an official announcement.
West Brom are permitted 14 days to lodge an appeal once they receive the complete written rationale. Should an appeal be filed, a hearing will occur within 28 days of the filing.
A strong streak of nine games without defeat had pulled the Midlands side clear of trouble, while a 3-0 victory over Watford at home last week seemed to place them beyond Oxfords grasp prior to this deduction.
West Brom will face second-placed Ipswich Town at home on Saturday, before wrapping up the season versus Sheffield Wednesday, the team at the foot of the table.
