Chelsea transfer plans start to change following Alonso role
Chelsea worked hard behind the scenes to get Alonso to accept the role and Flashscore showed last week that he was the clubs main choice.
People close have said that Alonsos modern coaching style fits with Chelseas future plans. The club leaders are sure that his name and status in football will draw top players to Stamford Bridge.
This choice is a big change from earlier ideas. Liam Rosenior was liked after his time at Strasbourg but he did not have Alonsos experience as a player and coach which made it hard to lead at the top level.
Chelsea think Alonso will have a positive impact and this might affect both new signings and players leaving this summer.
On one side the club think his arrival will help them sign players who can boost the first team right away. On the other they hope it will encourage some key players to stay committed to the plans.
Three players seen as key are Marc Cucurella Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer all of whom could do well with Alonsos guidance.
After deciding to join Chelsea Alonso said We want to create a team that can compete all the time at the top and challenge for trophies.
Alonso will be called manager and this means Chelseas setup will be more team based. He should work with the sporting directors and leaders on signing decisions and plans for the summer changes are starting now.
The goalkeeper spot has been seen as an issue for a while. If Chelsea do not keep Robert Sanchez as the main keeper Mike Maignan is still someone they might try to get.
Yet there is also more hope that top Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders might be ready to fight for the top spot after doing well on loan at Strasbourg.
In defence Chelsea are thinking of big changes. Targets from the Premier League include Maxence Lacroix Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi. The recruitment team also like Ousmane Diomande at Sporting CP and scouts have watched Joel Ordonez at Club Brugge closely.
The future of Tosin Adarabioyo and Benoit Badiashile is unclear as the window approaches.
There has been talk about Cucurellas future but Chelsea want the Spaniard to stay and Alonso seems to agree.
He is not asking for full control over signings but has asked for promises that Chelsea will fix weak spots especially in defence.
Chelsea are expected to look at central midfield too. Alex Scott of Bournemouth is one player being watched as the club looks at options in the Premier League.
There will be a new effort to keep Fernandez long term with a better contract like they did with Moises Caicedo.
At Flashscore we said recently that Chelsea did not see the talk linking Fernandez with Real Madrid as certain and Alonsos coming has made them more sure he can be kept.
In attack Chelsea have looked at Anthony Gordon but the player seems to prefer Bayern Munich.
Creativity will still come in though with Chelsea already set to sign highly rated Portugal Under 21 winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP and more choices will be thought about.
A new striker is also likely. We said before that Liam Delap is probably leaving and Dusan Vlahovic might be an option because of contract issues at Juventus.
Chelsea also have a big choice on Nicolas Jackson who is seen as worth around 60 million pounds if sold.
With Alonso now leading Chelseas changes this summer looks set to be very important.
