Paris FC Grab Remarkable Late Success Over Local Rivals PSG To Close Season Well
Before the game PSG were given the Ligue 1 trophy following their securing of the 14th division one championship thanks to a two nil success away at RC Lens on Wednesday. Manager Luis Enrique rang five changes in his starting eleven and gave a first appearance to the young defender Dimitri Lucea aged 19.
Enriques team did not approach this local derby casually as Bradley Barcola had a shot stopped by ex PSG keeper Kevin Trapp early on.
Paris FC made opportunities too with Matvey Safonov rushing out to stop Willem Geubbels and saving Moses Simons powerful shot then Geubbels shot wide following poor clearance from Lucea.
A concern arose for PSG in the 27th minute as Ousmane Dembele came off for Goncalo Ramos due to a possible muscle issue and attention turns to his readiness for the Champions League final versus Arsenal on May 30th.
Paris FC kept pressing and created more problems than PSG with Jonathan Ikone curling an effort just over late in the first half after a run from the right side.
The home side paid for missing their openings as Barcola scored from Fabians cross at the far post five minutes into the second half taking him above Dembele as PSGs leading scorer in the league with 11 goals this season.
Yet the champions failed to get the goal that would secure the points and Gory equalised by turning in Pierre Lees Melous cross shot past Safonov with 14 minutes remaining after only nine minutes on the pitch marking his fourth goal of the year.
Joao Neves sent a shot over as both teams sought victory but Gory decided it when Ilan Kebbal broke away in stoppage time and passed to the substitute who slotted home into an unguarded net.
The win means much to Paris FC coach Antoine Kombouare previously dismissed by PSG in 2011 as his team achieve consecutive victories over their adversaries after the Coupe de France win in January.
This late success rounds off a fine return to the top flight for the hosts following 46 years away achieving an 11th place finish which is their best ever.
Meanwhile PSG must recover for the Champions League final after their sequence without defeat in away fixtures in all tournaments came to an end in sensational style.
