Reece James hailed as worlds top talent pens fresh six year contract with Chelsea
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior praised Reece James as the finest right back in global football after the skipper agreed to a new six year contract at Stamford Bridge.
The 26 year old England international, who joined the clubs academy two decades ago, expressed his desire to stay put during his prime years.
James has lifted five significant honours with Chelsea, such as the Champions League and the Club World Cup on two occasions. He has featured in excess of 200 matches for the team, captaining over 50 of them.
"I am grinning ear to ear since we have locked down the premier talent in his role worldwide," Rosenior remarked on Friday.
"He faced numerous chances to depart this outstanding outfit, yet what stands out is not only the clubs prestige and legacy, which he has grown up within from an early age, but also his trust and assurance in our vision and direction.
"We held plenty of discussions on the matter. For him to commit long term and invest his trust in us represents a huge milestone."
Rosenior, appointed Chelsea boss in January, noted that James, primarily deployed at right back, possesses versatility across multiple roles.
"He boasts technical prowess to find the net, solid defending, remarkable athleticism, and sharp tactical awareness," he explained.
"What captivates me most is his modesty and character."
Rosenior further stated that James will serve as "my key leader" while he leads the side.
James voiced optimism about Chelseas potential to expand on past achievements.
"I developed here, I adore the club, I have tasted victory with them, and I am convinced there is much more success ahead," he shared with the press.
"I have consulted with figures from the clubs leadership, including owners and directors, and I am completely supportive of the initiative and our goals."
Chelsea secured the Conference League and Club World Cup in the prior campaign, though they have struggled to challenge seriously for the Premier League title since a US group assumed ownership from Roman Abramovich back in 2022.
The team, facing Newcastle at home on Saturday, sit fifth in the Premier League with nine fixtures remaining, following a 5 2 defeat to Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League last 16 first leg on Wednesday.
James is tipped to start as right back for England under Thomas Tuchel at the World Cup, having recovered from ongoing injury setbacks.
He has appeared 35 times across all tournaments this term, his busiest since the 2021/22 season.
