Prince Owusu Steps Down as Interim Coach for Asante Kotoko

The Porcupine Warriors issued an official statement, signed by Communications Director Sarfo Duku, confirming that Owusu submitted his resignation for the good of the club.

Interim Head Coach Prince Yaw Owusu has left his position with immediate effect. In his resignation letter, the coach explained that the choice was made with the clubs best interests at heart.

Management offers its heartfelt thanks to Coach for his efforts, loyalty, and devotion while with the club, and extends best wishes for his upcoming pursuits.

Earlier this season, Owusu took on the interim role after changes in the clubs technical staff, as Kotoko aimed to stabilise their efforts in the Ghana Premier League.

At first, his leadership provided some steadiness, with the squad displaying short lived progress. Yet, maintaining that progress turned out to be challenging.

Lately, Kotoko have faced a string of disappointing outcomes, securing only one victory in their past six matches. Consequently, the Porcupine Warriors have dropped to sixth place in the league table. Fans criticised the teams displays, and demands grew for the technical team to improve the situation.

The erratic performances eventually put Owusus role in question, with indications that his position was at risk prior to his exit.

After Owusus departure, Kotoko announced that youth team coach Hamza Obeng will lead the first team on a temporary basis until the seasons end.

For now, Youth Team Coach Hamza Obeng will manage the squad for the rest of the seasons fixtures. Additional plans will be shared shortly.

Obeng is set to steer the team through the vital closing stages, while management evaluates options for a lasting head coach appointment.

As the season reaches its critical juncture, Kotoko hopes the new management shift will ignite a revival and regain drive.

The clubs leadership will likely start seeking a full time head coach before the following season begins. Kotoko are scheduled to play Dreams away in the Ghana Premier League on May 3.
