AC Milan full-back Pervis Estupinan has also been selected, with Chelsea defensive midfielder Moises Caicedo adding strength and protection to the defence.

Caicedo is eligible for Ecuador's opening World Cup match against Ivory Coast on June 14, following FIFA's rule change last month regarding minor suspensions incurred during qualifiers.

Ecuador's attack will be led by 36-year-old Enner Valencia, the team's captain and all-time leading scorer with 49 goals in 105 appearances.

Valencia will appear in his third World Cup, aiming to add to his six goals in the tournament, which takes place from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Ecuador, who play a friendly against Guatemala on Sunday, will also face Curacao on June 20 and Germany five days later in Group E.

They are competing in their fifth World Cup, with their best result being reaching the last 16 in 2006 in Germany, where they lost to England.
