Lorient's Tosin grabs late leveller as PSG stumble in Ligue 1 title pursuit

Paris Saint-Germain, who rotated their lineup in advance of the forthcoming UEFA Champions League semi-final return match versus Bayern Munich, seized an early advantage in absurd fashion just six minutes into the game when Lorient custodian Yvon Mvogo deflected Desire Doues delivery directly onto Ibrahim Mbaye, allowing the ball to ricochet into the goal.

Unfazed, Lorient restored parity on 12 minutes via a straightforward pass from Panos Katseris to Pablo Pagis, who slotted home a composed side-footed volley.

This injected momentum into the away side, with Katseris causing persistent trouble along PSGs left flank.

During the subsequent 15 minutes, the home team managed only a misguided attempt from Senny Mayulu amid a generally uninspired display, which drew a fiery response from Luis Enrique.

Lucas Hernandez suffered misfortune as his effort cannoned off the frame of the goal, while Lee Kang-ins powerful shot was repelled by Mvogo. Yet, the most fluid passages of play originated from the visitors, highlighted by Noah Cadiou's standout performance.

Following the interval, Lorient's defensive setup posed a significant challenge for PSG to penetrate, with Desire Doues wayward free-kick from afar on 51 minutes representing their best opportunity to reclaim the lead in the opening phase of the second half.

As the 60-minute mark loomed, the hosts began to dominate possession without posing a genuine threat to the opposition, resulting in the introductions of Joao Neves and Warren Zaire-Emery.

Zaire-Emery's opening contribution was a firm strike from the boxes periphery that deflected gently into the net, registering his initial home league goal since August 2024.

This breakthrough compelled Lorient to revert from their five-man rearguard, thereby affording PSG additional room to manoeuvre. Even so, rookie Pierre Mounguengues misguided pass delivered the ball straight to Lorient replacement Aiyegun Tosin, who accelerated beyond the PSG defenders and coolly converted the leveller, marking his first strike of the campaign.

Tosin came close to securing a tardy victory, thwarted by Renato Marins agile intervention, whereas Mayulu clipped the upright with two minutes remaining at the opposite end. The deadlock held firm, securing a point apiece, leaving PSG with a provisional seven-point buffer ahead of closest challengers Lens, against whom they face off in 11 days. Lorient extend their barren run in away league outings to six matches (D3, L3), and will hold ninth position irrespective of outcomes in the rest of this fixture slate.
