Ajax and Kasper Dolberg 'in talks' with Midtjylland over a return to Denmark
Dolberg, who is 28, returned to Ajax from Anderlecht on a four year contract last season after completing a move worth up to €10 million. The Dane had a disappointing campaign in his first season back in Amsterdam since 2019, scoring only eight goals in 36 matches across all competitions, including three in 22 league matches.
During the second half of the season, Dolberg found the net just twice, with his last Ajax goal coming on 28 January against Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League.
With technical director Jordi Cruyff intent on overhauling the Ajax squad, Dolberg is likely to leave as he reportedly does not meet Cruyff's pressing standards.
According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Danish Superliga side FC Midtjylland are in talks with the club and the player about a potential transfer. Midtjylland, who finished second behind AGF Aarhus in Denmark, hope to lure Dolberg back to his native country, where he last played in 2016 for Silkeborg.
