Sirius Maintain Impressive Allsvenskan Opening with Victory over Hammarby While AIK Draws Against BP

Sirius 2-0 Hammarby

The teams that achieved the largest margins in the opening round clashed in Uppsala for matchday two, yet while Hammarbys triumph over title holders Malmo was often viewed as the standout result.

However that effort meant little this evening, with Sirius opening the scoring as early as the ninth minute after Isak Bjerkabo collected possession inside the Hammarby half, found room to exchange passes with Oscar Krusnell, and slotted the ball into the bottom corner from the areas edge.

Though the away team held most of the possession, they struggled to fashion genuine chances for an equaliser, allowing Sirius to secure the points with a quarter of an hour left on the clock.

From a long goal kick by custodian David Celic, a challenge in central midfield arose between Robbie Ure and Hammarbys final outfield player Victor Eriksson, with the forward prevailing to sprint clear and lift his brace of the campaign beyond Warner Hahn.

With two victories and no goals conceded, Sirius top the standings, edging Djurgarden, the sole other team with a perfect record after these initial fixtures.

Brommapojkarna 2-2 AIK

A dramatic equaliser in the 95th minute allowed Brommapojkarna to claim their second consecutive 2-2 stalemate at the start of the 2024 season, as AIK collected four points across their opening pair of fixtures under manager Jose Riveiro.

The contest ignited shortly before the hour, as BP keeper Leo Cavallius gifted the ball directly to Taha Ayari near the penalty areas boundary, enabling Zadok Yohanna to advance and assist Bersant Celina, who directed it beyond Cavallius.

Yet the hosts responded swiftly, levelling just three minutes later when a delivery from the flank was nodded onto the upright by David Isaksson, leaving Mads Hansen alert to poke in the loose ball.

It appeared Gnaget would claim the spoils when Victor Andersson rose to connect with a Johan Hove delivery and nod it in during the 78th minute, but parity returned deep into stoppage time.

A probing aerial ball sowed confusion inside the AIK box, leading to a lucky deflection that presented Alex Timossi with an easy finish, his effort looping over national team stopper Kristoffer Nordfeldt to divide the points.
