PSV's Ismael Saibari honoured as Player of the Year, Mika Godts secures Talent of the Year
Saibari, aged 25, shone brightly in a commanding PSV side that clinched the league title with a record 19-point advantage. The Moroccan midfielder of Spanish origin netted 15 times and set up 8 goals across 27 appearances for the Eindhoven giants.
Saibari's standout performance occurred in October during PSV's clash with league leaders Feyenoord, where they were three points behind. His hat-trick not only secured a vital victory but also propelled PSV to the summit, a position they maintained throughout the remainder of the campaign.
Following another impressive season, speculation grows that Saibari may depart PSV after the forthcoming FIFA World Cup. Speaking to ESPN, Saibari expressed his gratitude for the accolade: "Winning the league three times is incredible, and this award tops it all off."
The Moroccan international triumphed over teammates Joey Veerman, Ajax's Mika Godts, NEC's Tjaronn Chery, and Heerenveen's Jacob Trenskow in the voting.
The Eredivisie Player of the Year is determined by votes from the captains of all 18 Eredivisie clubs, with Saibari emerging as their clear choice, according to ESPN.
Mika Godts recognised
Ajax rising star Mika Godts claimed the Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year prize. The young Belgian winger enjoyed a breakthrough season with the struggling Amsterdam side, contributing 17 goals and 12 assists, establishing himself as the league's standout performer.
Godts received the honour through votes cast by managers from all 18 Eredivisie teams and was presented with the trophy by his mentor and former striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. "You brought me to Ajax and believed in me; for that, I will always be thankful," Godts remarked during the ceremony.
Ajax ended a historically poor season in fifth place but managed to progress to the UEFA Conference League qualifiers' second round after overcoming FC Groningen and FC Utrecht in the play-offs.
Godts narrowly edged out Kees Smit (AZ) for the award, with Dies Janse (FC Groningen), Sami Ouaissa (NEC Nijmegen), and Mats Rots (FC Twente) also shortlisted.
Excelsior's Gyan de Regt was awarded Goal of the Year for his spectacular bicycle kick against Fortuna Sittard in October.
