Kai Havertz describes Germany's attacking options as a 'good problem' before World Cup

Speaking in an online press conference, the first since the team landed in the United States on Tuesday, Havertz described having such quality in the squad as a luxury.

Julian Nagelsmann, the Germany coach, has a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal, including strikers and attacking midfielders such as Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, Nick Woltemade, Lennart Karl, Leroy Sane and Havertz, among others.

Havertz, who scored for Arsenal in their Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint Germain on penalties last week, said, "We have many attacking options. It is a very good problem to have. It is far better to have an abundance of talented players than too few."

Germany face the United States in their final preparatory friendly on Saturday ahead of the tournament beginning on 11 June. In a 4-0 victory over Finland on Sunday, Nagelsmann fielded Wirtz, Musiala, the 18 year old Karl, and Undav in the starting eleven, while Havertz was absent because of his Champions League commitments.

When asked whether he feared internal competition from the in form Undav, who scored twice and set up another goal against the Finns, Havertz said, "There is variety. We need all the players and many are capable of playing in different positions." He added, "His statistics speak for themselves. He is an extremely important part of the national team. We as players know that. No one is afraid of anyone. We have to function as a team together and everyone will be needed."

Germany enter this tournament aiming to repair their tarnished international reputation after surprising group stage eliminations in 2018 and 2022.

The four time world champions have not enjoyed international success since winning the World Cup trophy in Brazil in 2014.

Germany are in Group E at the World Cup and will begin their campaign against Curacao on 14 June before facing Ivory Coast and Ecuador.
