Inigo Perez appointed as Villarreal head coach until 2029
Inigo Perez is set to lead Villarreal until 2029, as confirmed by the Castellón-based club in an official announcement.
Villarreal CF have reached an agreement with Iñigo Pérez, who will take over as first-team head coach for the next three seasons, running until June 2029.
The Navarrese manager will be introduced as the club's new head coach tomorrow, Tuesday 2 June, at 6.30pm, at Club 1923 inside the Estadio de la Cerámica. The event, which is for media only, will be broadcast live on Villarreal CF's official social media channels.
Rayo's greatest league finish
The statement went on: "Inigo Perez Soto (born in Pamplona, Navarre, on 18 January 1988) is a youthful Spanish manager who has taken charge of Rayo Vallecano in LaLiga. During his tenure as head coach at Rayo, he guided the team to the UEFA Conference League final in the 2025/26 season and equalled the club's best ever LaLiga finish of eighth place in 2024/25.
His coaching journey started at Rayo Vallecano, serving as assistant to Andoni Iraola. When Iraola departed for English football, Perez was unable to accompany him because of administrative hurdles, and he subsequently took the reins of the Madrid club in February 2024, replacing the sacked Francisco Rodriguez.
Alongside his promising managerial career, Inigo Perez was also a professional player. In his playing career, he turned out for Athletic Club, SD Huesca, RCD Mallorca, CD Numancia and CA Osasuna, the team with which he hung up his boots in 2022.
