A historic moment awaits as Bafana Bafana discover the refereeing team for their match against the Czech Republic

The entire officiating team will be female, with compatriots Brooke Mayo and Kathryn Nesbitt acting as assistant referees.

Campbell-Kirk Kawana-Waugh from New Zealand will serve as the fourth official.

Penso began her career in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and in 2020 became the first woman to officiate in Major League Soccer for 20 years. She also refereed the 2023 Women’s World Cup final.

Both Mayo and Nesbitt were her assistants in that final between Spain and England, so they are accustomed to working together.

Bafana need a victory to get their campaign back on track after a 2-0 defeat to Mexico in their opening match.
