De la Fuente appeals for serenity after Spain held by 'highly organised' Cape Verde
Although they dominated possession and had many opportunities, the European champions could not turn their advantage into goals, as the African side put on a stubborn defensive performance.
Looking back on the draw, Spain manager De la Fuente acknowledged that his side were not sharp enough in attack and noted that luck can sometimes play a part in football.
"The solution is to keep believing in the same approach, to keep getting better with more precision, but well... These are matches where, as Rodri explained well, you create a lot, but without the energy needed in such games," De la Fuente told the press.
"They are a very organised team, we observed they dropped into a low block, making it very hard to create space.
Even so, we created chances. There was a lack of movement to create more, but when the ball does not want to go in, it does not want to go in.
"There were shots, opportunities and the will to finish the game early. We understand that this is very tough, and we know that winning here is very hard."
