'Football success was not driving decisions', admits Tottenham after avoiding relegation

Tottenham narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League, securing their survival with a 1 0 win over Everton on the final day.

This marks the second consecutive season where Spurs finished in the bottom half, sparking outrage among supporters towards the club's leadership.

In an open letter to frustrated fans, non executive chairman Peter Charrington acknowledged that "football success had not been driving our decisions."

"Last September, we recognised that significant changes were necessary at Spurs," wrote Charrington, who joined the board in March 2025.

"The Lewis family intervened and authorised a complete reset, a decision that was overdue and taken seriously.

"During this process, we uncovered several uncomfortable truths," he continued.

"The unique qualities defining Spurs our football, ambition, and connection with fans had diminished. Football success was no longer prioritised in our decision making.

"Key roles lacked the necessary expertise, and our squads were not built to compete effectively in the world's most demanding league."
