Alphonso Davies included in Canada World Cup training squad despite injury concerns

The squad will undergo training in Charlotte, North Carolina throughout the week before Canada reveals their final World Cup team lineup at 7 pm ET (2300 GMT) on Friday.

"These are the crucial days leading up to the announcement of the team that will represent Canada at a home World Cup, and the enthusiasm within this group is palpable," stated Canada head coach Jesse Marsch.

"We sense the growing momentum nationwide and we are composed, concentrated, and prepared for this significant occasion."

Davies has faced ongoing injury challenges this season, having already sat out friendlies against Iceland and Tunisia in March due to a hamstring issue.

His most recent injury occurred during the Champions League semi final second leg against PSG approximately three weeks ago.

Canada Soccer mentioned that players will join the camp in accordance with discussions with their respective clubs and medical teams, prioritising player fitness, whether they report to Charlotte or at a later stage.

After the training camp, Canada will travel to Edmonton to face Uzbekistan in a friendly match on June 1, followed by a game against Ireland in Montreal on June 5, as part of their World Cup preparations.

Canada will commence their World Cup campaign on June 12 against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto, with subsequent matches in Vancouver against Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24.
