Flashscore sources: Man Utd value Tonali at £70m as AC Milan also consider a move
Manchester United are a leading club in terms of interest in the Newcastle United midfielder, while Manchester City and Arsenal have also been linked.
Flashscore sources have long viewed a move back to Italy as the most likely outcome for Tonali, with AC Milan and Juventus among his admirers.
Milan are yet to appoint both a sporting director and a new head coach, however this is problematic in terms of moving swiftly with a deal.
Juve have a long list of transfer priorities, and while Tonali is listed, nothing has yet progressed.
This means the Italy international may yet have offers from other clubs in England to consider this summer, but it remains dependent on his price tag.
Newcastle are aware that Tonali is keen on a new challenge, but prefer the option that he plays outside of English football, rather than join a domestic rival.
As a result, negotiations with English clubs would not be straightforward.
Man Utd have Tonali on their shortlist in a summer when they are likely to make three signings in midfield.
At this stage, it is believed they would be looking to pay no more than £70 million for a deal to take him to Old Trafford.
The problem is that Newcastle continue to value the player closer to £100 million, and if they do not show signs of budging, then Man Utd would not pursue the deal.
At this stage, we understand it is still worth waiting for Milan to emerge as a credible landing spot.
There remains a belief they can bring a deal to life, and Tonali is willing to wait through the early stages of the transfer window for signs of a deal accelerating.
