Chairman of FC Midtjylland Claims Parken Stadium Gives FC Copenhagen Unfair Edge

Claus Steinlein, Chairman of the Board at FC Midtjylland, believes FC Copenhagen gains an excessive advantage if the cup final occurs at Parken Stadium each season.

Speaking to Viaplay, Steinlein expressed mixed views on the matter. As a football enthusiast, he appreciates hosting the Cup Final at Parken, yet from a professional perspective, he identifies an imbalance when the national venue serves as the consistent backdrop year in, year out.

"From a professional angle, this is a contest for a Europa League spot. Is it right for FC Copenhagen to benefit from home advantage in every final they contest? That represents a substantial edge. Securing a place in the Europa League is a major prize, making it unjust for FC Copenhagen to always have home turf."

"They use their familiar changing rooms, enjoy the home atmosphere, and benefit from their dedicated fan section. This creates too great an imbalance given the match's competitive significance. For that reason, I have professionally supported shifting these fixtures to neutral grounds," Steinlein continued.

FC Copenhagen faces FC Midtjylland in the Danish Cup final at Parken Stadium this evening at 17.00 CET.
