Dominik Szoboszlai apologises to Liverpool fans after 'misunderstanding' against Man City
Liverpool players faced boos as they approached to acknowledge their supporters after the humiliating 4-0 defeat to City in the quarter-finals.
Szoboszlai reacted with a shrug, lifted his arms, and clapped in what many saw as a sign of sarcasm and irritation towards the supporters' criticism.
The Hungarian midfielder was guided off by Liverpool colleague Federico Chiesa, yet Szoboszlai sought to minimise the moment before Tuesdays Champions League quarter-final return match versus title holders Paris Saint-Germain.
"Maybe it was a misunderstanding between me and the fans," he shared with journalists on Monday.
"I didn't mean it in a bad way. Obviously I know what the fans mean to this club and what the club means to the fans.
"We do everything for the fans as they do for us. If it was a misunderstanding, then I apologise.
"I'm not feeling better than them, I feel exactly the same as they do. I am with them, we are with them and hopefully they are with us as well."
Liverpool teeter on the edge of a Champions League exit to PSG for the second year running.
A poor showing in Paris a week ago has put Arne Slots team in a tough spot if they aim to pull off a remarkable turnaround against the champions at Anfield.
"We're going to go all in and give our best. I'm ready to die on the pitch tomorrow (Tuesday)," Szoboszlai stated.
"It is going to be a different game from the first leg. We are going to be doing stuff in a different way.
"I can speak for all of the players because we want it so bad. Anything can happen in one game at Anfield."
