Bologna announce Tedesco as new head coach after Italiano departure

Italiano is among the frontrunners to take over from Antonio Conte as Napoli's coach.

"Bologna has announced the appointment of Domenico Tedesco as first team technical director," the club stated, adding that the coach had signed a two-year contract with an option for a further year.

The 40-year-old, who holds dual Italian and German citizenship, recently departed Turkish club Fenerbahce, where he had succeeded Jose Mourinho, after fewer than a full season.

He previously managed Schalke 04, Spartak Moscow and RB Leipzig, with whom he lifted the German Cup in 2022.

He also spent two years at the helm of the Belgium national side.

Born in Italy, Tedesco, whose name means German in Italian, grew up in Germany from the age of two.

He is expected to feature in a summer coaching merry-go-round in Italy, with Bologna, Napoli, AC Milan and Lazio all set to appoint a new manager, while Atalanta and Fiorentina may follow suit.
