Struggling Orgryte battle back to earn another draw against Elfsborg

Orgryte 2-2 Elfsborg

If Elfsborg had converted those four draws into victories, they would now be a point ahead at the top of Allsvenskan. Instead, they are seven points behind leaders Sirius, having played two additional games.

The deficit seemed set to shrink to five points when Julius Beck was fouled in the box by Mikael Dyrestam. Arber Zeneli then calmly slotted the resulting penalty to give Elfsborg the lead in the 37th minute.

Zeneli appeared to have sealed the victory midway through the second half. Beck went down to win a long ball ahead of the defender, then knocked it across for the Kosovo international to delicately chip over the goalkeeper.

The home team had threatened on a few occasions, so it was perhaps no surprise when they capitalised three minutes later. A long throw was not cleared properly, and after some tidy touches to keep the attack going, Christoffer Styffe cushioned the ball down for Noah Christoffersson to volley home.

It was perhaps an even bigger surprise that they completed the comeback just seven minutes later. William Hofvander sent a hopeful ball down the right flank. Christoffersson controlled it after shrugging off his marker, skipped past a defender, cut inside, and smashed the ball into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

Dyrestam almost achieved ultimate redemption late in the game, but his close-range header hit the post. The points were shared after each team scored twice.

Orgryte ended a streak of four straight defeats and remain bottom of the table, level on six points with Halmstad but behind on goal difference.
