Son Heung-min Poised to Achieve South Korean Milestone in Friendly Against Brazil

South Korea's national team captain Son Heung-min is on the verge of surpassing the nation's all-time appearance record during the upcoming friendly match against Brazil this Friday.

The Los Angeles FC forward is scheduled to earn his 137th international cap in the high-profile friendly taking place in Seoul, serving as preparation for next year's World Cup in North America.

Both South Korea and Brazil have secured their spots in the 2026 World Cup finals, marking Son's fourth appearance in the tournament at the age of 33.

Having moved to Major League Soccer in August, the former Tottenham captain Son currently shares the record of 136 international matches with former defender Hong Myung-bo and ex-striker Cha Bum-kun.

If Son participates in the match at Seoul World Cup Stadium against Brazil managed by Carlo Ancelotti, he will surpass both Cha and Hong, the latter now serving as South Korea's head coach.

Should he not feature in that game, another opportunity will arise in the home match against Paraguay on Tuesday, accompanied by a special ceremony celebrating this milestone.

Son debuted for the senior national team in December 2010, having netted 53 goals to date.

Brazil secured a 4-1 victory over South Korea in their last-16 clash at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
