Schjelderup remains unsure about securing World Cup visa following suspended jail term

The judge Mathias Eike imposed a two-week suspended prison term on Schjelderup which means he would only face actual imprisonment if convicted of further offences within the coming year.

That said the guilty verdict concerning minors may count as a matter of moral turpitude in the eyes of US officials potentially blocking his admission unless he secures a special exemption.

Martin Dahlgaard a Danish legal specialist pointed out that a suspended term often creates obstacles for getting a US visa. Lacking an existing valid one Schjelderup would need to submit his request at the US Embassy in Oslo and his record of conviction might lead to rejection.

Andreas Schjelderup admits he continues to lack clarity on whether he can head to the USA in June for the competition.

We have lodged the application. I have no additional information right now. I am optimistic it will work out and that is the feedback I have got but I truly know nothing else. I am powerless to change it", Schjelderup shared with TV2.no.

In November of the previous year Norway booked their place at the 2026 World Cup via a 4-1 triumph on Italian soil in the closing qualifier. Schjelderup stayed an unused bench option throughout the Milan encounter.
