Romero criticises Spurs squad depth as shameful
Tottenham skipper Cristian Romero described his teams shortage in players as shameful following their subdued close to the transfer period on Monday.
Romero had to leave the pitch in Tottenham's 2-2 stalemate with Manchester City because of sickness, which pushed the number of fitness related absences at the club past ten.
Manager Thomas Frank has faced a tough debut campaign at Tottenham, partly owing to numerous important players being out for extended times.
The side from north London managed victories in only two of their previous 15 Premier League matches and currently occupy a lacklustre 14th position.
Although Tottenham brought in England midfielder Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid during mid January, they offloaded last years top scorer Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace.
Right after the winter transfer cutoff ended, the Argentine centre back Romero used social media to express his annoyance over the minimal additions.
He posted on Instagram, Great work from all my fellow players yesterday, they were outstanding.
I wished to be fit to support them despite not feeling great, particularly given we had just 11 players ready, which is astonishing yet factual and shameful.
We will continue to step up, own our duties to reverse this, train diligently and remain united. Finally, thanks to every one of you for your presence and constant backing, the supporters.
Several Tottenham colleagues, such as Pedro Porro, Xavi Simons and Dominic Solanke, liked Romero's online outburst.
Tottenham attempted but failed to secure Ghana striker Antoine Semenyo, who moved to Manchester City from Bournemouth, along with Liverpool full back Andy Robertson.
They did secure a loan deal for young Hearts forward James Wilson on Monday, including a potential permanent transfer, though the prospect will start with the Under 21 team.
