Riad Bajic shocks Crystal Palace in UEFA Conference League clash

Riad Bajic from Bosnia and Herzegovina struck the decisive goal for AEK Larnaca in a 1-0 upset against Crystal Palace during the UEFA Conference League fixture on Thursday.

The forward found the net during the second period to propel the Cypriot outfit into second position in the group behind Fiorentina following the initial pair of matches.

Crystal Palace sit in 18th place after suffering their inaugural home defeat in European action.

"Competing in Europe means appreciating that minor errors lead to penalties," remarked the English sides manager Oliver Glasner to TNT Sports.

"Frustration is high and it stings yet this is merely the second encounter and our performance remained solid," the German coach continued.

Prior to half-time Crystal Palace created the prime opportunities to take the lead with Jean-Philippe Mateta striking the bar and sending a header astray.

Bajic then caught the Selhurst Park crowd off guard just past the 51-minute mark and the English team failed to level the score even amid a series of opportunities towards the end.

In another result AEK Athens delivered a 6-0 thrashing to Aberdeen where Mauritanian forward Aboubakary Koita bagged a brace.

The Scots endured their most severe loss in European fixtures since debuting on the continental stage back in 1967.

Romanian defender Andrei Ratiu secured a leveller in the 103rd minute enabling Rayo Vallecano to finish 2-2 against Hacken.

The journey of Sparta Prague to Rijeka faced postponement owing to poor weather.
