Relegation-threatened Leicester City have six-point deduction upheld after appeal

The team from the Midlands occupies 22nd place in the Championship, just one point clear of the relegation zone, and risks descending to League One, the third division of English football, if they fail to improve during their remaining five fixtures this season.

A decade back, Leicester surprised the entire football community by securing the Premier League crown as rank outsiders, only to suffer relegation the next year. Earlier this season, they incurred a six-point penalty for infringing the English Football League's rigorous profitability and sustainability regulations on expenditure.

"An independent Commission’s decision to ‌recommend a six-point deduction on Leicester City Football Club this season has been upheld by an independent Appeal Board," the Premier League, which initiated the original investigation, said in a statement.

The club has accepted the verdict.

"With the matter now at an end and five games of ‌the season remaining, everyone at the ​Club is fully focused on the ‌matches in front of us and on shaping the outcome of our season through our results on the pitch," the club said.

On Saturday, Leicester will face Swansea City at home.
