Bayern's Neuer out of Atalanta tie with calf tear

Manuel Neuer, the Bayern Munich goalkeeper, will be absent for his teams Champions League round of 16 encounter against Atalanta on Tuesday following a new calf injury.

The club stated that their captain experienced a minor muscle tear in the 4 1 Bundesliga victory over Borussia Moenchengladbach on Friday.

Bayern, currently dominating the league standings, offered no specific timeline for his comeback on Saturday, yet the German publication Bild suggested a two week layoff. This would see him absent for both matches versus Atalanta and the Bundesliga fixture away at Bayer Leverkusen.

Turning 40 later this month, Neuer has already skipped numerous games this season owing to calf troubles and sat out 10 fixtures last term due to a related issue.

His agreement with the Bundesliga title holders expires at the seasons conclusion. After retiring from Germany national team commitments in August 2024, Neuer has not yet disclosed plans regarding a potential one year extension.
