Mayele wins CAF Super Cup for Pyramids

Egyptian club Pyramids secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Moroccos Renaissance Berkane in the CAF Super Cup final held in Cairo on Saturday, thanks to a solitary strike from forward Mahmoud Mayele.

The 31 year old Congolese player netted the decisive goal in the 75th minute during this yearly showdown featuring the CAF Champions League champions against the winners of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The breakthrough occurred when Mohamed Chibi intercepted the ball from Imad Riahi as the Moroccan attempted to advance into Pyramids territory at Cairos 30 June Stadium.

Chibi then advanced into the Berkane penalty box, allowing Mayele to unleash a powerful low drive that evaded goalkeeper Munir Mohamedi and ricocheted off the far upright into the goal.

Mayele, who moved to Pyramids from Tanzanias Young Africans in 2023, recently adopted the name Mahmoud upon embracing Islam.

He played a pivotal role in Pyramids triumphant Champions League campaign last season, their second try at the title, where he topped the scoring charts with nine strikes in Africas top club tournament.

This win, which earned Pyramids 500000 dollars, marks them as the third Egyptian side to claim the Super Cup, following Al Ahly with eight successes and Zamalek with five.

Berkane had previously triumphed in their last Super Cup outing three years earlier.
