Maresca encourages Chelseas Estevao to disregard Yamal parallels

Enzo Maresca has dismissed parallels drawn between the young wingers Estevao and Lamine Yamal ahead of Chelseas Champions League encounter with Barcelona on Tuesday.

The 18 year old Estevao has impressed since joining Stamford Bridge in July, netting nine goals for both club and national team.

At his pre match press briefing on Monday, Chelsea boss Maresca faced questions on whether the Spanish star Yamal, only three months Estevaos junior, could serve as an ideal example for his talent.

Yet the Italian highlighted that the Brazilian prodigy is already thriving at elite level given his age.

"Estevao performs at a top tier already, securing a spot in Brazils starting lineup," Maresca shared with journalists. "Certainly he is still young and has room to refine aspects, yet we are delighted with his contributions."

"Fans who adore the game relish observing talents such as Estevao, Lamine Yamal, and Barcelona midfielder Pedri. That embodies the charm of football."

Maresca advised Estevao to tune out external chatter.

"Undoubtedly he will emerge as a key figure for this team," he remarked. "In the long term, there is no question.

"He should focus on his own joy. No need to compare himself against others.

"Simply aim to surpass his previous self each day through diligent effort and growth."

Maresca noted that Chelsea striker Cole Palmer is recovering well from a toe issue, though unlikely to feature against Barcelona or Arsenal over the weekend.

"Cole sports a protective boot," Maresca stated. "We lack a precise return date, but it should happen shortly.

"He is back on the training ground, handling the ball, and the sensations are positive.

Barcelona sit 11th in the leagues phase of Europes premier club tournament with seven points from four outings, matching Chelseas tally.

Maresca revealed a profound impact from the ball dominant approach of Pep Guardiolas Barcelona, who lifted the European title twice under the current Manchester City coachs leadership at the Nou Camp from 2008 to 2012.

"Guardiola's Barcelona from years back inspired me to pursue management," Maresca elaborated.

"Today, if various clubs opt for alternative tactics, I have often noted that every team may select their preferred style. I settled on mine long ago, and that remains how I envision my squads on the pitch now and ahead."
