Liverpool Boss Slot Says 'Superhuman' Salah Was Frustrated by Being Left Out

Arne Slot confessed on Tuesday that the "superhuman" Mohamed Salah felt dissatisfied about not featuring in Liverpool's crucial 2-0 victory over West Ham, yet he commended the player's response.

The Egyptian striker remained an unused option on the bench during Sunday's match at the London Stadium, as Liverpool manager Slot implemented alterations after a poor streak of nine losses in 12 outings across all tournaments.

Struggling Salah, aged 33, has netted only four times in the Premier League this term, a sharp decline from his 29 goals last season that earned him the Golden Boot award.

Speaking to the press, Slot noted that under his stewardship at Anfield, Salah has acted like a "superhuman being," although his form has dipped lately.

"Just like every player globally, there come moments during your stint at the team when you show your human side," he explained. "Yet he has delivered countless goals for us, and I am confident he will continue to do so ahead."

Slot, with his side in eighth position set to face in-form Sunderland at home on Wednesday, mentioned he expected Salah's discontent at being sidelined, while highlighting his dedication.

"It is a typical response from an athlete capable of representing us," he remarked. "I put it gently, given his exceptional contributions to this club over numerous years, and his ongoing impact for us to come.

"Naturally, no athlete enjoys sitting out. He was far from the sole one displeased about not starting, I assure you."

The Dutch coach added that Salah supported his colleagues throughout.

"One cannot maintain availability every few days at such elite levels if driven purely by feelings," he stated.

"However, Mo remains highly disciplined, understands how to keep in shape, and regardless of performance, participation, or exclusion, he stays the ultimate professional."

Slot indicated that Salah plans to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations on 15 December.

"In these cases as usual, it involves the athlete, the country, Egypt here, and the team. Discussions always centre on what benefits everyone involved," he noted.
