Gerrard rejects chance of Rangers return
Former Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard has decided against returning for a second spell as manager of Rangers, who are facing difficulties, according to reports on Saturday.
The 45 year old emerged as the leading candidate to take over from the dismissed Russell Martin at the Scottish Premiership outfit.
However, after engaging in positive conversations, the ex international concluded that the current moment does not suit a comeback to Ibrox.
Martin lost his job last weekend following a mere four months in the role, as the team managed only one win from their initial seven Premiership fixtures.
Gerrard held the reins at Rangers from 2018 until 2021, securing the Scottish league title in the 2020/21 campaign prior to departing for Aston Villa.
He stepped down from managing Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq back in January.
Among those mentioned as possible replacements for Martin at Ibrox are Hearts manager Derek McInnes, former Rangers star Kevin Muscat, and ex Everton chief Sean Dyche.
