Fenway Sports Group declares 'work continues' as they mark 15 years of Liverpool ownership
Fenway Sports Group, the owners of Liverpool, have stated that their "work continues" even after guiding the club back to prominence in English and European football, as they commemorated 15 years in charge at Anfield on Wednesday.
Key figures including principal owner John W Henry, chairman Tom Werner, and president Mike Gordon expressed gratitude to supporters "for pointing out our shortcomings" in a statement published on the official club site.
Since the US-based group took over, Liverpool has claimed the English top-flight title for the first time in three decades back in 2020, followed by another Premier League victory last year, alongside a sixth European Cup win in 2019.
Not everything has gone smoothly, with notable errors such as the clubs misguided role in the attempted European Super League, leading to a quick reversal and personal apology from Henry.
Additionally, executives abandoned plans for steep ticket price increases following backlash from fans.
"Beyond the pitch, we have made mistakes at times," the leadership group admitted in their combined message.
"We recognise this and have taken lessons from it. Every choice we make prioritises the clubs long-term wellbeing above all."
Speaking directly to the fanbase, they added: "We appreciate your warm reception, your faith in this squad during peaks and troughs, your feedback on our lapses, and your demonstration of what it really means to belong to Liverpool Football Club.
"This occasion allows us to reflect with thanks. Yet it also underscores that our efforts are ongoing. Much more lies ahead, more triumphs to secure, more victories to claim, and more shared moments to create."
FSG has poured funds into upgrading Anfield facilities and building a state-of-the-art training complex.
Their standout successes remain the on-field results, including matching the record with a 20th English league championship in the most recent campaign.
"Right from the start, our core goals were straightforward: restore glory to Anfield and safeguard the enduring vitality and security of this iconic institution," the owners noted.
"We grasped the weight of our stewardship role and have strived to uphold it daily."
