Arteta Claims Chelsea Merit Title Contender Status Ahead of Clash

Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, believes that Chelsea, sitting in second place, have earned the right to be seen as genuine challengers for the Premier League crown ahead of their upcoming match at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

His squad holds a six-point lead over the Blues following 12 matches into the campaign.

Arsenal are riding high after securing a convincing 4-1 victory against fierce rivals Tottenham, closely followed by a solid 3-1 triumph over Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Chelsea are also in high spirits, having notched up three consecutive league successes and a resounding 3-0 win against Barcelona midweek.

Even with their impressive run, Enzo Marescas young Chelsea team remain viewed as unlikely winners of the Premier League title.

However, Arteta refuses to downplay the threat from his adversaries, who lifted the UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup in the previous season.

"We are all in the mix, and they are right there because they have truly earned it," he stated to journalists on Friday.

"Considering their achievements over recent years, the team they have built, the depth in numbers, the skill levels, and the coaching staff they employ, it is logical that things are progressing so well for them, and they belong in this position."

The ex-Arsenal and Spain midfielder highlighted Chelsea as one of his favourite sides to observe.

"They possess great fluidity, pose numerous dangers, boast plenty of standout players, know exactly their approach, and that is what makes them so challenging," he added.

"It is undoubtedly a major fixture, a key London derby. We face a top-notch team. They are performing exceptionally well, and we understand the test ahead, along with the chance we have on Sunday, so we are completely prepared."
