Arteta Believes Exceptional Rice Can Contribute Further to Arsenal

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta firmly believes that Declan Rice, the England midfielder, has additional potential as he prepares to face Chelsea's strong pairing of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo in midfield.

These three players, who collectively cost over £300 million ($397 million), rank among the top performers in the Premier League this season and will all participate when table-topping Arsenal, leading by six points over runners-up Chelsea, travel across London for the Sunday clash at Stamford Bridge.

Rice mentioned earlier this week that he selected Caicedo for his 2024/25 team of the season, yet Arteta remains confident in Rice's ongoing development.

"Having spent every day with him, building that understanding and connection, we will see even more" from Rice, the Arsenal head coach stated on Friday.

"He desires more, the squad understands him better now, and his responsibilities are expanding within the group. His influence on the team is immense."

Rice built his name at West Ham in a holding role just ahead of the backline, but Arteta has broadened his involvement by positioning him higher up in midfield.

"I have known him for years before we brought him in, and I recognised his capacity to develop and transform the side," Arteta explained.

"He has absolutely achieved that and perhaps exceeded what we anticipated."

Arteta also appreciates Rice's leadership skills as Arsenal aim to secure their first Premier League crown since the 2003/04 campaign.

"He captained West Ham, of course," Arteta noted. "Joining a fresh club in a different setting, with established dynamics, he has worked to enhance his influence.

"To become more vital, to engage fully in all our activities, he is part of the leadership circle, which matters greatly.

"He commands respect. He does not require the captain's armband to feel deeply involved, influential, and essential to the squad."
