Amorim insists Man United can develop further after draw against Tottenham

Ruben Amorim stated that Manchester United are merely starting to form a powerful squad following their extension of an unbeaten streak to five Premier League matches via a thrilling 2-2 tie away to Tottenham.

The team from Old Trafford appeared poised to climb to second place after taking the lead with Bryan Mbeumo's headed goal in the opening period, holding it for almost 60 minutes.

That said, Tottenham responded with two quick strikes within seven minutes, courtesy of Mathys Tel and Richarlison, flipping the momentum.

Even after being reduced to 10 players when Benjamin Sesko had to withdraw injured post Amorim's completion of all five permitted changes, Manchester United managed a late equaliser via Matthijs de Ligt's impressive header right at the 96th minute mark.

Amorim commended his players' determination, though he felt they ought to have secured victory having dominated the initial 45 minutes.

"In the heat of the match, it seemed like the victory was within reach," remarked the manager from Portugal.

"Analysing the play and sensing the atmosphere, our team has considerable potential for improvement, as this was an opportunity we should have seized today."

Amorim continued: "With slightly more courage, we could have sealed the result."

This result positions United in seventh spot, and they risk falling below mid table depending on outcomes from other fixtures this weekend.

Nevertheless, Amorim notes advancement amid his most extended run without defeat since assuming control at Old Trafford a bit more than 12 months back.

"I realise this represents only the surface level. We are at the early stages of building a robust unit, meaning plenty of work lies ahead," he explained.

"Our confidence in netting goals right up to the final moments proved justified, as we demonstrated."
