Alonso anticipates greater performances from Trent at Real Madrid
Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso stated on Saturday that he feels Trent Alexander Arnold is only beginning to demonstrate his true potential after his transfer from Liverpool in the summer.
The England player sat out multiple weeks due to injury but has featured in full for Madrids previous two fixtures.
Alexander Arnold, aged 27, alternated with experienced Dani Carvajal early in the campaign prior to sustaining a hamstring problem.
"I believe we shall witness an improved Trent," Alonso remarked during a press briefing ahead of Madrids La Liga encounter with Girona on Sunday.
"Undoubtedly it is encouraging that post injury he managed 90 minutes versus Elche and 90 against Olympiacos.
"He is essential to us. This marks his debut season and it is expected to include an adjustment phase."
The full back departed his lifelong team Liverpool having appeared over 300 times for the Premier League powerhouse.
Alexander Arnold faced challenges occasionally during the 2-2 stalemate with Elche yet elevated his play as Madrid triumphed 4-3 over Olympiacos in Athens.
"He is beginning to rediscover his form," Alonso added.
"He sets high standards for himself too, performing at an elite level. We must support him through this significant transition, yet it brings positive developments."
Alonso further commended fellow England star Jude Bellingham for his recent displays.
"I maintain excellent rapport with Jude, fostering a strong connection," Alonso noted.
"He ranks among the worlds premier talents, yet possesses this eagerness to progress, to develop, and to maximise efficiency from his vast abilities.
"I appreciate such players who show inquisitiveness and proactivity in seeking ways to enhance performance."
Madrid has ended their most recent two league outings in draws and aims to regain stride versus Girona.
Alonso verified that Franco Mastantuono, Antonio Rudiger, and Eder Militao have recovered from injuries and will join the squad, although Raul Asencio remains uncertain.
