Geschiedenis, formaat, organisatie, media-aandacht

De Scottish Highland Football League (SHFL, algemeen bekend als de Highland League) is een senior voetbalcompetitie gevestigd in het noorden van Schotland. De competitie bevindt zich op niveau 5 van het Schotse voetbalsysteem en fungeert als een feeder naar de Scottish Professional Football League.

Opgericht in 1893, bestaat de competitie momenteel uit 18 clubs in één divisie. Geografisch bestrijkt de competitie de Schotse Hooglanden, evenals Moray, Aberdeenshire, de steden Aberdeen en Dundee, Angus en delen van noordelijk Perthshire.

De Scottish Lowland Football League (SLFL, algemeen bekend als de Lowland League) is gevestigd in centraal en zuidelijk Schotland.

Opgericht in 2013, bestaat deze competitie momenteel ook uit 18 clubs in één divisie. Geografisch bestrijkt de competitie een gebied ten zuiden van Dundee in de Laaglanden van Schotland.

Sinds het seizoen 2014-15 maken beide competities deel uit van het senior pyramidesysteem. De winnaars nemen deel aan een promotie play-off aan het einde van het seizoen met de kampioenen van de Lowland Football League, waarna de winnaar het opneemt tegen de onderste club van de Scottish League Two voor een plek in de SPFL. Er is ook promotie en degradatie tussen de drie op de Hooglanden gebaseerde regionale competities op niveau 6 (Midlands League, North Caledonian League en North Superleague).

Internationale dekking
