The ex midfielder earned fame for his skill with set pieces including a striking curled free kick versus Manchester United during the Champions League.

The Japanese Football Association announced Nakamura will integrate into Hajime Moriyusus support team ahead of the World Cup. Japan sits in Group F facing the Netherlands Tunisia and Sweden.

"I pondered extensively the effects my role could bring during this vital period with the World Cup approaching soon," the 47 year old remarked.

"Yet upon getting an enthusiastic and uplifting note from Moriyasu I chose to proceed."

Nakamura secured 98 appearances for Japan netting 24 goals and took part in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.

He transferred to Celtic in 2005 from Italys Reggina and claimed three Scottish league crowns across his four years in Glasgow.

He hung up his boots in 2022 and stepped into an assistant coaching position at Japanese outfit Yokohama FC.

"I vow to unite with the Japanese teams objectives while they perform internationally and spare no effort in aiding their success," Nakamura declared.
