Midtjyllands Dramatic Late Fightback Delivers Key Victory in Summit Showdown, Narrowing Gap to Two Points Behind AGF

AGF grabbed an early advantage in the 19th minute and looked firmly in command. Yet a costly error from goalkeeper Jesper Hansen combined with a stoppage time header from Julius Emefile sealed a 2-1 triumph for FC Midtjylland in an exhilarating conclusion in Herning.

AGFs position at the summit of the standings is now down to a mere two point lead. Five matches remain in the league schedule.

The outcome proved disastrous for AGF, who dominated large portions of the encounter but saw their efforts unravel in the closing stages.

The drama unfolded with Hansens blunder as he punched the ball into his own goal with six minutes remaining. Then, in the second minute of added time, substitute Emefile launched himself to direct a header beyond Hansen, gifting the hosts an unexpected success.

AGF had opened the scoring in the 19th minute from a free kick that was redirected towards the advancing Henrik Dalsgaard, who powered the ball past Midtjylland custodian Elias Olafsson from close proximity on his second effort.

The match official first rejected the strike for offside, but a VAR intervention confirmed that a FC Midtjylland defender had inadvertently touched the ball to Dalsgaard.

AGF manager Jakob Poulsen pushed for intense pressing and tight marking across the pitch, a strategy that served his structured away side well for most of the game and had the championship in sight, only for it to escape at the death.
