Lukas Lerager claims FC Copenhagen is facing repercussions from a limited squad depth

The central midfielder now plies his trade at Widzew Lodz in Polands Ekstraklasa, having been unable to secure a contract renewal with the current Danish title holders.

Lerager appeared in 219 matches for FC Copenhagen prior to his departure from the Lions to join the Polish outfit this winter.

Nevertheless, the 32 year old has kept a close eye on his previous team, which is encountering relegation playoff battles for the first time in the Danish top flight.

Lerager puts this down mainly to a team assembled without proper balance.

The challenges facing FC Copenhagen arise from a squad lacking the required breadth. Taking part in three competitions has exhausted them, and we are now observing the outcomes of this, Lerager stated to Polish publication Pilka Nozna.

"I have personally attempted to play games every three days, and the greatest difficulty was mental recuperation. The physical side might recover within that timeframe, yet the mind could remain weary."

"Certain players might struggle to sustain complete focus entering the subsequent league fixture after competing in European events. FC Copenhagens lineup has not been constructed optimally, which influences their outcomes", Lerager added.
