Dutch star Edgar Davids criticises ex-team Tottenham for poor quality and limited ambition

Tottenham Hotspur are facing their third managerial change in a woeful campaign, currently languishing in the Premier League drop zone, just two points above the trapdoor with only five fixtures to go.

Ex-Netherlands midfielder Edgar Davids praised the recent hiring of Italian tactician Roberto De Zerbi three weeks back as a smart decision, yet he remains concerned about the north Londoners survival in the top flight.

When quizzed by AFP on how Tottenham reached this sorry state, Davids remarked: "It's very obvious, if you pay peanuts, you get...

"It's a lack of quality and a lack of management. Everything."

Davids, who turned out for Spurs in the 2005/06 term after dazzling spells at Ajax, AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona and Inter Milan, argued that the club needed to reinforce their beleaguered, injury ravaged lineup during the January window.

"I hope they stay up, I think it's a very good thing they got in De Zerbi," stated the 53 year old, while attending the launch event for the 'Hong Kong Football Festival' which will showcase Manchester City, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus this August.

"But it's hard. They should have done big things in the winter period to get some players in. It was obvious."
