Vitinha scores hat trick in PSGs exciting 5 3 win over Spurs in Champions League thriller

Portugal international Vitinha grabbed a hat trick in midfield as Paris Saint Germain fought back from a deficit to secure a 5 3 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in a high octane UEFA Champions League match on Wednesday evening.

The creative midfielder levelled the score with a spectacular effort moments before the break to cancel out Richarlisons early strike at the Parc des Princes and then repeated the feat soon after the interval following Randal Kolo Muanis second goal for the visitors.

On loan from his former team Kolo Muani aimed to make an impact against them and he did add another later though by then the current European title holders had capitalised on Tottenhams defensive lapses to score two additional times.

Fabian Ruiz claimed PSGs third goal while Willian Pacho added the fourth and Vitinha wrapped up the points with a penalty kick enabling the Ligue 1 leaders to claim four victories out of five in this campaigns group stage.

This marks the first hat trick of my professional career and even the first time Ive scored twice in a single game so its incredibly meaningful Vitinha shared with Canal Plus after the match.

Im delighted above all with the win especially since we overturned a lead twice demonstrating real resilience in our squad.

With Lucas Hernandez dismissed late in the game PSG are nearing qualification for the knockout rounds and remain on track for a top eight finish in the league phase which guarantees a straight path to the round of 16.

Tottenham drop to 16th position yet they hold hope for advancing with Slavia Prague as their next opponents.

Manager Thomas Frank failed to gain the morale boosting outcome he sought following last weekends 4 1 defeat to Arsenal as Spurs have now conceded 11 goals across their previous three fixtures and secured only three triumphs in their last 12 appearances.

Still there is little shame in falling to this version of PSG despite their ongoing injury troubles.

I am thoroughly satisfied with our display this evening It truly reflected our teams style with plenty of courage and intensity Frank commented to TNT Sports.

We saw numerous encouraging aspects including our forwards combining for three goals and the entire group putting in a strong shift.

This encounter represented PSGs 10th meeting with Premier League sides in 2025 where they have triumphed in six within regular time plus they overcame Tottenham via penalties in the August UEFA Super Cup.

The north London club took the lead from their initial chance on 35 minutes when Kolo Muani headed Archie Grays delivery from the flank for Richarlison to nod home.

This marked the Brazilians third strike in as many outings and his sixth of the campaign surpassing his total from the entirety of last season.

After a home loss to Bayern Munich in their prior Champions League fixture PSG were keen to prevent consecutive defeats and they equalised just before halftime.

Kolo Muani brace

After receiving the ball from Quentin Ndjantou Vitinha allowed it to roll across him before smashing a brilliant right footed shot that clipped the crossbar on its way in.

The away side regained their advantage shortly into the second period despite Pacho blocking a Gray shot on the goal line only for Kolo Muani to rifle it home.

This was the French forwards debut goal for Tottenham after 10 outings since his temporary switch from PSG.

PSG hit back swiftly once more as Vitinha took Khvicha Kvaratskhelias through ball on the penalty areas edge drove forward and slotted in with his left foot.

The champions assumed the lead for the first time around the hour mark with Ruiz finishing neatly from Joao Neves clever back heel following a challenge on Pape Matar Sarr near the box.

The scoring continued as Pacho poked in to make it 4 2 after Tottenhams backline struggled with a corner kick.

Vitinha suffered for a turnover in his own territory an uncommon error that let Kolo Muani net his brace and pull one back for Tottenham.

However the 25 year old midfielder had the final say.

A spot kick was awarded to PSG when his effort struck Cristian Romero on the arm and Vitinha dispatched it coolly for 5 3.

This was his inaugural senior level hat trick notably after missing a penalty versus Tottenham in the Super Cup.

Hernandez received a straight red card in added time post VAR review for striking Xavi Simons with his elbow.
