Struggling Sheffield Wednesday handed fresh six point penalty
Financially troubled Sheffield Wednesday have received an additional six point deduction from the English Football League (EFL), as revealed on Monday.
These latest penalties stem from the Championship teams failure to remunerate players during March, May and June this year, alongside unpaid wages to employees and obligations to HM Revenue and Customs.
The ex Premier League outfit suffered a 12 point deduction on October 24 following their entry into administration.
Currently languishing at the foot of the Championship standings, which is Englands second division, they now sit on -10 points overall.
Dejphon Chansiri, the previous proprietor of the Owls and a Thai entrepreneur who severed ties with the club post administration, faces a three year prohibition from owning or directing any EFL affiliated team.
The EFLs official announcement stated: "Sheffield Wednesday FC will incur a six point deduction effective immediately due to several violations of EFL rules concerning payment duties, while the clubs ex owner, Mr Dejphon Chansiri, is barred from ownership or directorial roles in any EFL club for three years.
"These measures for the club and Mr Chansiri were finalised via mutual consent on the penalties, later approved by the chair of the independent disciplinary panel."
