Sam Kerr describes Asian Cup as positive despite major chance overlooked

Japan defeated the hosts by one goal to nil in the final to claim the title for the third occasion in four editions with Maika Hamano netting the winner.

Australias success against North Korea in the quarter finals earned them a place at the World Cup in Brazil and Kerr noted numerous positives from their Asian Cup efforts.

"We made it to the World Cup which is a good outcome and Japan form a strong side" Kerr remarked from Kenya where Australia are competing in FIFA Series friendlies.

"I have not completely processed it yet as it was quite disheartening and it seems like a significant chance was overlooked. Yet with our accomplishments and the support from the country it came across as a positive tournament.

"Its vital because you will encounter various opponents at the World Cup" the Chelsea forward continued.

"The World Cup grows larger every edition and you meet teams from diverse confederations so we need to prepare for every kind of match."

Australia will play Malawi on Saturday before facing either Kenya or India.
