Rapid Vienna sign Silkeborg striker Tonni Adamsen on two year contract
"I am glad everything worked out and that after a long period we have reached a good agreement. I am really looking forward to my new teammates and the club, the first training sessions, and the new challenge here in Vienna", Adamsen told the club website.
Rapid Vienna, who finished fifth in the Austrian Bundesliga last season, are coached by Dane Johannes Hoff Thorup.
The club's sporting director, Markus Katzer, said that Adamsen was a player the club had been keen on and he is very pleased that the parties have come to terms, even though the Dane also had other appealing options.
"It is certainly an advantage that our coach, Johannes Hoff Thorup, has followed the player for years and knows his qualities extremely well. He also very much wanted to bring in Adamsen, so it is especially gratifying that we can now welcome another experienced, goal scoring and strong character to the squad", said Katzer on the club's website.
The 37 year old Johannes Hoff Thorup, a former head coach at FC Nordsjaellland, arrived at Rapid Vienna in January after also spending time at Norwich in England.
Adamsen has been at Silkeborg since moving from FC Helsingor in the summer of 2022. Since then, he has developed into a key player for the side, making 156 appearances, scoring 65 goals and providing 24 assists. This season he played a crucial role in ensuring Silkeborg's survival in the Superligaen.
Rapid Vienna have won the championship 32 times, the most recent being in the 2007/08 season. Since then, Austrian football has been largely dominated by Red Bull Salzburg, while Sturm Graz and, most recently, LASK Linz have won the title in recent years.
