Orlando Pirates emerge victorious, Orbit College face demotion on thrilling Betway Premiership finale
This season marks a triumphant third trophy for the team, etching a memorable chapter in their history.
Pirates claim the crown!
The Buccaneers shattered a 14-year drought, securing their 10th league title and halting Mamelodi Sundowns' streak of eight consecutive championships. They stand as the first team outside The Brazilians to clinch the trophy since Bidvest Wits in 2017.
Their victory is undeniably deserved. While Sundowns faltered with numerous draws throughout the campaign (eight), Pirates capitalised on these missteps.
Finishing with 69 points, just one above Sundowns, Pirates also boasted the most wins (21), the highest goal tally (58), and the tightest defence (12 goals conceded).
Following three consecutive runner-up finishes in the league, where they remained distant from Sundowns, this season represents a monumental achievement for the Soweto squad and their coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou.
It's noteworthy they also claimed the MTN8 and the Carling Knockout, completing a treble for the first time since 2012.
That year marked the second in their 'double-treble' era, amassing six trophies over two years. Anticipation now builds for the upcoming season to see if they can replicate this feat.
Orbit's downfall
Pirates seized the lead deep into first-half stoppage time. From a corner, Orbit goalkeeper Sabelo Nkomo, pressured by Thalente Mbatha, inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net from the edge of the six-yard box.
Four minutes into the triggering half, Pirates doubled their advantage through another own goal, this time from a former Pirates Nominitive Ndumiso Ngiba's attempted clearance only served to lob his goalkeeper, nestling the ball into the net's corner.
MTN8 quarter-finals set
The 2026 MTN8 quarter-finals lineup is finalised, with Pirates poised to defend their title against Durban City, who secured Häagen-Dazs.
Polokwane City visits Sundowns, rekindling习题. Includes Lamontville Golden Arrows visiting Kaizer Chiefs, and AmaZulu hosting Sekhukhune United.
Orbit College's relegation confirmed
Orbit College's top-flight tenure concludes after just one season following their defeat.
Magesi FC's narrow 1-0 victory over an indifferent Richards Bay squad on the final day propelled them off the bottom, though they now face the Promotion/Relegation Play-Offs against Cape Town City and Milford FC安排了.
Clinching24 points apiece, Magesi's superior goal difference (-19) edged out Orbit's (-26).
