Napoli secure Champions League qualification with victory over relegated Pisa

The hosts came into the game with nothing to fight for after their relegation had been confirmed forcing the away side to dictate play in pursuit of a top four position.

Before the match Pisa had netted just 18 non penalty goals in the league this season the fewest in Europe s top five leagues and this was evident in the opening period as Napoli took command.

Following a header wide from Rasmus Hojlund and a save on Alisson Santos by Adrian Semper the guests opened the scoring midway through when Scott McTominay finished a pass from Hojlund at the near post.

They soon added a second goal as Amir Rrahmani nodded in Eljif Elmas corner kick past the keeper . Elmas remained dangerous nearly scoring again before the interval.

Pisa waited until the closing moments of the first half for a clear opening but Alex Meret denied Filip Stojilkovic in the area.

Pisa improved after the restart with Stojilkovic testing Meret early on and Mehdi Leris heading over from the corner that followed.

Their bright start faded quickly and Napoli reasserted themselves without creating many clear chances. McTominay headed over midway through the second period.

Late on Hojlund wrapped up the win in stoppage time latching onto a low cross by Pasquale Mazzocchi.

The result under Antonio Conte secures Champions League football for next season as they hold a three point lead over AC Milan and AS Roma going into the last match.

For Pisa this was just their second win in 26 matches in the division and they end the campaign with a visit to Lazio.
