Mikel Arteta Motivates Arsenal Team to Show They Can Triumph in EFL Cup Showdown

Arsenal are pursuing a historic quadruple, holding a nine-point lead over Manchester City in the Premier League, alongside promising quarter-final matchups in the Champions League and FA Cup.

Following three straight runner-up positions in the Premier League, Arteta recognises that his squad must demonstrate their ability to secure victory when it counts.

"This will be a pivotal occasion, as ultimately it boils down to lifting the trophy," the Spanish manager stated on Friday.

"Winning remains the top priority once you reach the final.

"However, reaching that stage demands considerable effort. The team has achieved much already, yet we must validate our capabilities on the field, without question."

Arteta has revitalised Arsenal since departing his role as Pep Guardiolas deputy at City to assume control at the Emirates in 2019.

Nevertheless, he has secured only one significant honour in his tenure, guiding the side to FA Cup success in 2020 at a deserted Wembley amid COVID-19 measures.

Guardiola, during his pre-match briefing, noted that his bond with Arteta has evolved, yet he dismissed any suggestions of current tension despite their competition for titles.

The Arsenal manager expressed lasting appreciation for the chance to develop under Guardiola in the initial phase of his coaching journey.

"Not being able to meet or share moments is a factor in our dynamic, but not the primary one," Arteta remarked.

"My regard for him, our shared history, and his profound influence on me, the motivation he provided, that will endure forever."

Arteta anticipates that skipper Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber could recover in time for the Wembley encounter, having sat out the midweek 2-0 victory against Bayer Leverkusen through injury.

He declined to specify his starting goalkeeper.

Guardiola confirmed James Trafford will retain his spot for City ahead of primary keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, having featured in every domestic cup fixture this term.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has featured prominently in Arsenals cup ties, but serves as backup to David Raya in Premier League and Champions League outings.
