Manchester City squad to compensate supporters following Bodo Glimt loss

The Manchester City players are set to reimburse ticket prices for supporters who journeyed far north to the Arctic Circle, only to see a disappointing 3-1 loss against Bodo Glimt in the Champions League.

City endured one of their most embarrassing defeats in recent times on Tuesday, as the Norwegian underdogs secured their inaugural Champions League group stage triumph.

Bodos entire population of 55000 could almost fill the seats at Citys Etihad Stadium, and the economic disparity between the teams is vast.

The City players have committed to covering ticket expenses for the 374 fans who undertook the journey.

Admission to the match at the compact Aspmyra Stadion was priced at about £25 ($33) per ticket.

In a Wednesday announcement from Citys leadership group, including Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Rodri and Erling Haaland, they stated: Our supporters are everything to us.

We understand the efforts our fans put in by travelling globally to back us at home and away, and we never take it for granted. They rank as the finest supporters worldwide.

We also acknowledge the extensive travel endured by those who cheered us on in the bitter cold during a tough night for the team.

Paying for these tickets for the fans who came to Bodo represents the minimum we can offer.

Citys sole victories in their last seven outings have been in the FA Cup third round versus lower league Exeter and the initial League Cup semi-final leg against Newcastle.

They have yet to claim a Premier League win this year, with their recent 2-0 defeat at Manchester United placing them seven points adrift of table toppers Arsenal.

The compensation move was praised by Kevin Parker, spokesperson for Citys official fans association.

Manchester City supporters will go to any lengths to rally behind our side, and Tuesdays event in the Arctic Circle was no exception, Parker noted.

Reaching Bodo is no simple task, and the freezing conditions turned it into a demanding night in various ways for our followers.

The bond between City fans and players during games is remarkable, and this action further highlights that link. It holds great significance for us.
